THE "COWPIE IN THE SKY"
hunt: 11-16-2011 (inaugeral)
A call from Jimmy Messick of Cowpie Compost in Midland Virginia gave me reason to believe that TODAY was the day to
ascend into the newly crafted PieBox. Coordinating with son-in-law Richard and Jimmy’s son Jon, we all arrived at the area by
about 1530 or so.

After entering the PieServer, Jimmy operated the PieMover while Jon walked with it to make sure everything was stable. It
worked better than planned I believe. No glitches. Not one.

Once we arrived at the PieBox, Richard opened the PieWalk and up I went, smoothly delivered as can be. The next thing I knew, I
was zipping across the PieWalk into the PieBox. My fear of heights was definitely still there.

Once in the box, Richard cut out to observation windows (PieHoles). I am able to shoot over the edge of the PieWalk once
retracted (if I raise Matilda to full height) so that works. The PieHoles allow side shots.

Around 1600 or so, the work was done and all went so well Jimmy offered to let me hunt now. I had brought my old muzzleloader
“just in case” so we stayed in the box, ramp down.

At 1712, in a slight drizzle, out comes four bambettes to the left. Eat, walk, eat, walk. The only problem was that they were bout
200 yards away; too far for me to use that old .54 comfortably. We observed. it was awesome!

Just before 1727 (quitting time) a black cat sneaked out to wood’s edge and walked out way. Richard’s shout sent that cat back
to wherever it came from…QUICKLY. Lot of fun!

1730 and the PieServer is called into action. Down I go and back to the van smoothly and quickly.

God bless the Messicks (and the McFarlands who donated the PieBox top). It was awesome! Thanks Richard for being there and
helping out. It was a real team effort, and it worked!
